Louie, your comment about calendar appointments being sent is good. That discussion has been happening since the last time I was on AC FWIW. It might be practical, although an invite to $all/list creates challenges for sure.

Cheers all, stay safe.

So yes, there are several good ways for each of us to avoid issues when booking a future meeting in our calendars:
  1. Book it actually as UTC if your calendar software allows it. (I think that's what Mike was advocating.)
  2. Book it for your local time after you calculate the time difference for the date of the meeting. (An excellent tool is the World Clock Meeting Planner at timeanddate.com. Great for traveling because you never know when DST changes for a particular region.)
  3. Subscribe to your Doodle poll calendar on the Calendars settings page if the meeting date & time was decided via that tool. (You don't have to give it permission to read your own calendar if you don't want that much integration.)
Another way is if the Secretariat would agree to send out the meeting invitation emails as actual meeting invitations from a calendar. The invitation can even include connection information. 🙂 Most mail & calendar programs should happily allow you to accept the invitation and add it to your calendar.

Louie...wondering how he agreed to doing 5 am meetings 2 days in a row.

P.S. Be aware: "Neither UTC nor GMT ever change for Daylight Saving Time (DST). However, some of the countries that use GMT switch to different time zones during their DST period." (source "GMT vs UTC" article)

You are right Mike! It’s just that when I blocked the slot in my gcal I didn’t take into account that part.

I have now rescheduled my other Conf call so I will be able to join.

Cheers,
Nikolas

Folks

The whole point of UTC is that it does not change with changes to daylight saving. For example - in the winter the UK is on UTC, in summer they move to UTC +1, most of Europe is on UTC +1 and moves to UTC +2.

However UTC does not change.

Mike

Hi Juan,

I just figured that it’s in an hour. I was alone in the meeting room when I realised that due to the switch to summer time last Sunday we are now in UTC+2 over here.

@all: Unfortunately I had reserved the time slot in my calendar according to the previous time zone (UTC+1) and I have another conf call coming up. I will try to reschedule that one but if not possible, I will not be able to join you. Apologies for the mix up.

Cheers,
Nikolas

Hi all,

Just double checking, is the call now or in an hour?

Thanks!
